Guides are one part of the secondary drive. If the chains have been through a season behind locked cams and heavy springs, put heavy duty secondary chains in at the same time — thicker plates and a thicker pin than factory, and it is the same teardown either way. Two other things live in the same job: on 2011-2017 the factory tensioner pushes on the driver side head in the wrong direction, which the secondary tensioner flip bracket (EN043) corrects by applying pressure to the slack side of the chain, and the primary chain arms and guides see the same load the secondaries do.
